How To Sign Up For Kroger Fuel Points

Note: Kroger Fuel Points can be used at any of the Kroger Family of Brands. That said, there are sign up links for every brand that we have listed below. Again, it does not matter which link you use to sign up.

How To Earn Kroger Fuel Points

Kroger differentiates between three different types of spend with regards to how many fuel points you will earn:

General Spend: 1 fuel point for every $1 you spend
Gift Cards: 2 fuel points (or 4 fuel points, see below) for every $1 you spend
Qualifying Prescriptions: 50 fuel points

4x Fuel Points Gift Card Promo

Not only does Kroger give a greater benefit to gift card purchases than to general grocery spend every day but they will also run semi-regular promotions to give 4x fuel points on gift cards. If you’re purchasing gift cards online, you will receive the bonus fuel points automatically on applicable purchases. If you’re purchasing gift cards in-store, you will need to clip the digital coupon on your Kroger account. One thing to note, each promotion includes different categories of gift cards. Some may be home improvement (i.e. Lowe’s) only while some may be all categories. Pre-paid gift cards (AmEx, Visa) are also considered their own category.

Is There A Limit To The Number Of Fuel Points You Can Earn?

Nope. The only limit is your credit card limit.

How To Redeem Kroger Fuel Points

For fuel redemptions, 100 fuel points are worth a $0.10 / gallon discount. Maximum discounts per trip are $1.00 / gallon (i.e. 1,000 fuel points) and up to 35 gallons total. You can also redeem Kroger Fuel Points at Shell though you are limited to $0.10 / gallon.

Note: The maximum discount at stations located in Louisiana is $0.10/gallon and the program is not valid in Missouri.

Where Can I Redeem Kroger Fuel Points?

Do Kroger Fuel Points Expire?

Yes, Kroger fuel points expire on the last day of the following month in which they were earned. For example, if you earn fuel points in March, they expire on the last day of April.

How Much Are Kroger Fuel Points Worth?

Kroger Fuel Points are worth between 0.0¢ / point (if you let them expire) and 3.5¢ / point if you are able to maximize the 35 gallon max discount. Given the average fuel tank of 14-18 gallons, it is reasonable to assume that Kroger Fuel Points are worth between 1.4¢ and 1.8¢ per point.

You can see your current Kroger Fuel Points Balance online by clicking on the link for the appropriate brand below.

When you check your Kroger Fuel Points balance online you will see two tables. The first table shows the points you earned last month and how many days until they expire. The second table shows the points you’ve earned in the current month and how many days until they expire. When you redeem fuel points, it will automatically use the points you earned first (i.e. the ones from the top table) before it starts to use the points you’ve earned in the current month.

Can You Use Kroger Gift Cards For Gas?

Yes, you can use Kroger Gift Cards for gas. If you look at the Kroger Gift Cards Terms & Conditions… “The Kroger Family of Companies Gift Card represents a prepayment for goods and fuel available at Kroger, Barclay Jewelers, Baker’s, City Market, Copps, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Fred Meyer Jewelers, Fry’s Food and Drug, Gerbes, JayC, King Soopers, Littman Jewelers, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Owen’s, Pay Less Supermarkets, Pick ‘n Save, QFC, Ralphs, and Smith’s Food and Drug.”

Using Kroger Fuel Points For Discount Gift Cards

If we assume that each fuel point is worth 1.5¢ (see above), that means that on normal days when gift card purchases earn 2x fuel points, we can purchase gift cards from Kroger at an effective 3% discount. On 4x Kroger Fuel Point promo days, we can purchase gift cards at an effective 6% discount.

Combining Gift Card Sales With Fuel Points

Luckily for gift card resellers, you earn fuel points even on discounted gift cards and the 4x Kroger Fuel Points promotions also work on discounted gift cards. For example, $300 Lowe’s gift cards will sometimes go on sale for $270. On a normal day, we would also earn 600 Kroger Fuel Points worth ~$9. With a 4x promo, we would earn 1,200 Kroger Fuel Points worth ~$18. If we can resell the Lowe’s gift card for a profit or breakeven, the fuel points become free.
